The Nutcracker - Birmingham Royal Ballet

I worked with the Royal Opera House scenic team on the set for the Birmingham Royal Ballet production of The Nutcracker.

Work involved texturing the Drosselmeyer set to create the impression of thickly painted metal using Idenden and Fillite. Applying gold leaf to the roof and lettering. Ageing with varnish and Rosco paint using a spray gun. Painting in washes using Bona Mega extra matt glaze. Applying size and gold leaf to the sides of two cloths in a broken up appearance. Priming, painting and applying gold leaf to columns, windows and cornices.

Choreographer: Peter Wright, Lev Ivanov, Vincent Redmon

Designer: Dick Bird

Performed at: The Royal Albert Hall, London, 2017

Freelance scenic painter working in theatre, film and events, currently based in London.
