The Monstrous Child
I was lead painter for the Royal Opera House production of The Monstrous Child, the first show to be set in the recently renovated Linbury Theatre.
Work involved sampling, priming and texturing each individual cloth in Flex Coat to achieve the appearance of animal skin. Then applying a series of Rosco paint washes: light yellow, dark yellow, red and black.
Next we applied Rosco Glaze all over the cloths using a texture roller and then drew 'HEL' using charcoal which, was sealed with Bona Mega extra matt Glaze. Using a spray gun we darkened the base of the walls using Rosco black paint and Mylands glaze matt. The tops of the cloth were individually cut to give the appearance of stretched animal skin. Furthermore we applied texture (Idenden, fillite, PVA glue) and Rosco paint washes to the eyelets to create rust. We applied the same process on the walls, to the floor cloth.
